The replacement of US military capabilities in the EU will cost Europe one trillion dollars, Bloomberg reports quoting the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).
With serious gaps in European defense capabilities, EU states are still hoping US President Donald Trump will give Ukraine “concrete security guarantees.”
“Europe has critical shortfalls in space-based intelligence and surveillance, and integrated air and missile defense — the primary areas that the UK- and French-led coalition of the willing hopes US assistance will cover,” Bloomberg reported. “It would cost Europe $1 trillion to replace conventional US military capabilities assigned to the region.”
The website stresses that the US gives NATO with most of its intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance data, including that from spy satellites, and replacing those capabilities would cost Europe $4.8 billion.
NATO members agreed at a June summit in The Hague that they would spend5% of GDP annually defense by 2035.

Pentagon officials informed European diplomats last week that the United States would no longer fund programs to train and arm troops in Eastern European countries bordering Russia, the report said, adding that the EU countries were shocked by the US decision and are trying to clarify the details. One European official believes this move is meant to encourage the EU to ensure its own security. European officials are also trying to understand whether internal funding will be sufficient to fill these gaps or if these cuts will impact critical aspects of European security, the publication says. The NATO summit took place in The Hague on June 24-25. President Donald Trump repeatedly criticized Europe for its low contribution to the alliance’s defense capabilities and called on all member countries to raise defense spending to five percent of GDP.

Across all fronts, the Russian military is making advances, while Ukrainian forces show signs of exhaustion, military expert and retired colonel Anatoliy Matviychuk tells Sputnik. Ukrainian POWs say that companies are staffed at 40–45%, and battalions even less. On the Pokrovsk front, Ukraine is redeploying units — including the 95th Brigade — from Sumy, pulling already battle-worn troops to plug emerging gaps. No Wonder-Weapon Can Change the Situation “A ‘wonder-weapon’ always implies a shift from quantity to quality,” explains Matviychuk. “The enemy has no quantity. Even the missiles they try to present as new — like the Italian-made ‘Flamingo’ — are being supplied in tiny numbers.” The US ATACMS missiles also arrive in small batches — 10, 20, at most 30 rockets. Those missiles are largely used for propaganda of Ukrainian ‘success,’ but they won’t change the course of the fighting on the battlefield, the military expert concludes.

The Ukrainian Army is in a critical condition and can no longer conduct large-scale operations, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at a Beijing press conference. What are the signs?
Across all fronts, the Russian military is making advances, while Ukrainian forces show signs of exhaustion, military expert and retired colonel Anatoliy Matviychuk tells Sputnik.“Near Kupyansk, the enemy deployed the 1st Presidential Brigade — the so-called ‘ceremonial brigade.’ Deploying units that are usually reserved for ceremonial duties indicates the depletion of the enemy’s reserves.”
Ukrainian POWs say that companies are staffed at 40–45%, and battalions even less.
On the Pokrovsk front, Ukraine is redeploying units — including the 95th Brigade — from Sumy, pulling already battle-worn troops to plug emerging gaps.“On the Kharkov and Kupyansk fronts, units of Latin American mercenaries have appeared. Typically, mercenaries are reserved for special tasks. Their deployment as regular line units indicates a lack of reserves and resources.”
No Wonder-Weapon Can Change the Situation
“A ‘wonder-weapon’ always implies a shift from quantity to quality,” explains Matviychuk. “The enemy has no quantity. Even the missiles they try to present as new — like the Italian-made ‘Flamingo’ — are being supplied in tiny numbers.”
The US ATACMS missiles also arrive in small batches — 10, 20, at most 30 rockets.

Israel concealed information about Iran’s successful strikes on its five military facilities during the recent escalation, which can be explained by strict military censorship laws in the Jewish state, The Telegraph newspaper reported on Saturday, citing satellite radar data provided by scientists of US Oregon State University.

These facilities, located in the north, south and center of Israel, were struck with a total of six Iranian missiles, the report read. Among these facilities there are Tel Nof air base, a logistics base and an intelligence gathering center, the newspaper reported. According to the analysis, conducted by The Telegraph, most of the Iranian missiles were intercepted, but the proportion of the missiles that went through Israel’s air defenses was increasing during the first eight days of the escalation. The Israeli Defense Forces refused to give any comments on the issues of interception of missiles and the damage, inflicted by Tehran, The Telegraph reported. On the night of June 13, Israel launched an operation against Iran, accusing it of implementing a secret military nuclear program. Iran rejected the accusations, responding with its own attacks. The parties exchanged strikes for 12 days, which were joined by the United States, which carried out a one-time attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities on the night of June 22. The following evening, Tehran launched missile strikes on the US base Al Udeid in Qatar. US President Donald Trump said on June 23 that Israel and Iran had agreed to a ceasefire to end the “12-day war.” Iran denies the military dimension of its nuclear program. The IAEA has not seen concrete evidence that Iran has an active nuclear weapons program, Director General Rafael Grossi said on June 18.

UK Military Felt They ‘Had The Right To Do Whatever They Want In Afghanistan’
[ad_1]
11:44 GMT 15.05.2025 (Updated: 11:49 GMT 15.05.2025)For over a decade, Afghan civilians screamed for justice. Night raids, women and children killed in their sleep, homes destroyed without cause — the British military’s “conqueror” mentality turned Helmand into a war zone of revenge and fear.
Why has this come to light only now? Because the US-backed British military is good at hiding information about new scandals about them, Arshad Yusufzai says. The journalist from Peshawar, who’s been on the ground in Afghanistan since 2009, exposes what everyone ignored:
It was Afghanistan, a third-world country with no international support and no powerful independent media to cover the events. Complaints from the Taliban, the Karzai government, and locals about war crimes were simply dismissed by international agencies.Repentance? Those who committed these war crimes “have a conscience, and now they want justice to be done, or at least they want to take the burden off their shoulders.”No legal action ahead: Americans involved in similar crimes were spared with “only minimal punishments” in the past. And “it’s going to be the same” with the UK military.Feeling of arrogance: The UK special forces believed “everything belongs to them” as they were involved in violating international humanitarian laws and peoples’ lives and dignities.Hidden motives: British troops were defeated by the Afghans in the past, and they were battered time and again in Helmand, so they had “sort of a revenge on their mind.”What about justice for the victims now — why aren’t the Taliban taking these cases to the ICC?
“They’re not expecting anything from the international community because what’s done is done for them right now. But they believe in time healing these issues. And they know that a time will come that the world will know about the crimes that were taking place in Afghanistan in the 21 years of occupation by the international forces.”
